Throughout the year, we’re going to be organising events and competitions. These are a chance for everyone to get involved, to promote your work or to spot new talent. We’d like this new community for photography to flourish. All events and competitions are completely free.
Events
Key to the events program are our bi-monthly informal crit sessions, to encourage an environment of dialogue and debate, giving photographers and photography lovers the chance to get together to discuss work, show projections, argue and drink beer! Happening at various venues, the next crit is on the 27th January, meeting 7pm in the fabulous upstairs room of the 3 Kings Pub in Clerkenwell, London. If you’re in town bring along your portfolio, or love of photography, and join us.
We’re also going to be organising projections of new work in weird and wonderful locations across the UK, as part of our Spring Slideshows competition (details below). Dates and venues to follow.
Competitions
Entering competitions is important throughout your life as a photographer, it’s nice to be rewarded in what can often feel a fairly solitary persuit, and it’s great for your profile. All of our competitions are aimed at getting new work into a different arena. First up…..
Spring Slideshows!
What better way to get ourselves through the long dark evenings of the new year than some nice, bright, projected slideshows of beautiful photography. We are currently speaking to various venues in London and elsewhere in the UK about a series of projections of new photography. Some indoors, some on the street, some with a party, some with no fanfare….we’ll let you know more details as we go.
We need you to start making slideshows of your work! No sound for this one, just stills and text. As simple or as fancy as you like, but we’d really like to see people being a bit inventive with the format.
The deadline for your submissions is 1st Feb 2010! No fee, just send us your work to info@contacteditions. Either send us a finished slideshow piece or an edit of your pics, as jpegs.
To help you on your way we’ll be posting info looking at software you can use, demonstrations of how to use it, advise from pros on how to edit and order your images, and looking at some inspiring examples on our blog. Get cracking!
We are also continually taking submissions for new editions, please see our submissions page.
